Hjem — meaning ‘home’ in Norwegian — emerged from Co-Founder Elin Fu’s reminiscence of her life in the small southeastern town of Hamar in Norway. Now based in Hong Kong, rather than longing to go back, Elin reconciles her frequent cravings of rye bread with herring and dill right in the heart of the city on Hollywood Road. The Nordic diet also made a significant impression on Nelson Htoo, Co-Founder, after his visit to Hamar. Mindful mealtimes inspired finding joy in the simple pleasures of life — a much-needed shift in focus, especially for those that have adapted to the rhythm of city-living.
As a space of respite and calm, Hjem aims to be the go-to for an authentic Nordic experience. Our menu embodies Norway’s healthy gastronomic identity, boasting fresh produce that places attention on principles of slow and conscious eating.
Through good, nutritious food and irresistible coffee, Elin intends to share with the world the culture and cuisine that she finds comfort in, hoping that wherever you’re from, you too will find a piece of home at Hjem.
Hjem boasts a diverse point of entry into the Nordic diet that is often lauded for its health benefits. We specialize in traditional open sandwiches — or smørrebrød — for which we use premium toppings directly sourced from the Northern waters, such as Arctic prawns, haddock, and trout, to encapsulate an authentic Nordic experience.
With the same precision and focus on quality, our food menu comprises various Nordic staples that use simple yet timeless ingredients essential to the rejuvenating diet.

We believe a quality cup of coffee is a catalyst for a true hygge moment — finding contentment in the things we often take for granted. Coffee is largely embedded in Nordic culture, ranging from the Swedish concept of fika to the longstanding Norwegian brewing method kokekaffe. Naturally, our coffee at Hjem adheres to a certain regional caliber. Our beans are locally sourced from Holistic Coffee, from light roast Scandinavian blends to single origins, catering to everyone.
But not to worry if coffee isn’t for you — we focus on all our beverage offerings with the same mindful and considered approach. We have partnered with various independent businesses such as Plükt to bring you a selection of handpicked Nordic teas; local brewery On the Wagon for refreshing kombucha; La Cabane for a roster of natural wines; and finally, our signature cocktails crafted by our bar team are not to be missed.

Since moving away from the quaint town of Hamar in Norway, Elin has always been compelled by the food scene in Hong Kong — new concepts were always on the horizon, but she found that they never could quite fill the void of comfort food from home. Having always wanted to be an entrepreneur, Elin took a deep dive into F&B and shortly after, Hjem was born. Gaining traction in the local F&B scene with his inaugural concept Club Rangoon — the first authentic Burmese restaurant in Hong Kong — Nelson continues his passionate foray into creating innovative concepts. With Club Rangoon, Nelson intended to introduce the underrepresented cuisine of his homeland to diners in Hong Kong. Grounded by a similar vision, Hjem offers a Nordic edge and flair to the local culinary scene. Bringing to Hjem his expertise as a restaurateur, Nelson aims to create an experience that guarantees the comfort and functionality of Nordic culture. Tracy is no stranger to the scene; having been in the industry for almost 12 years, she is devoted to developing the next generation of leaders to further the boundaries of what hospitality can be. Graduated with a Hotel and Restaurant Management Major, Tracy has always been passionate about F&B. With time spent at The Pontiac, ranked No. 33 of Asia’s 50 Best Bars, and her most recent post at the neighborhood dive bar The Last Resort right from its inception, she brings ample experience and an approach that is centered around community and building an inclusive and empowering environment for all. Across the years, Tracy has honed a strong bar background with which she bring a host of fresh new concoctions to Hjem’s drink menu, ranging from rotating seasonal drinks to carefully crafted Nordic-inspired cocktails. Committed to wholehearted, quality service, Tracy adds unparalleled warmth to Hjem’s hygge hospitality — all of which comes naturally with her propensity to put others first.
